United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the U.S. government plans to deport a Haitian national accused of engaging in violence and supporting criminal gangs.
Rubio stated that the individual’s presence has jeopardized U.S. foreign policy objectives regarding Haiti and poses risks to American security.
“I am pleased to announce the latest U.S. actions against an individual whose activities have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States,” Rubio stated.
He noted that under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, deportation will proceed once there are reasonable grounds that an individual’s presence threatens U.S. foreign policy.
This week, the State Department also publicly designated Arnel Bellazir, a former member of the Haitian Chamber of Deputies, and Antonio Jeremy, a former Haitian senator, for their involvement in significant corruption while in public office.

Kimar Riley, one of four men convicted in 2019 for the 2011 murder and beheading of 18-year-old Joet Lynch and her mother, 40-year-old Charman Rashri, has filed an appeal against his conviction and life sentence.
Riley, who has long denied any involvement, was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor and ordered to serve a minimum of 52 years before parole eligibility. His appeal now challenges both the conviction and the severity of the sentence.

U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping new import tariffs on Thursday, including 100% duties on branded drugs and 25% levies on heavy-duty trucks.
Trump said the move is aimed at protecting the U.S. manufacturing sector and ensuring national security.
The new tariffs follow earlier duties of up to 50% on several trading partners and targeted levies on specific imports, including steel.
The measures have reignited fears of a renewed trade war, adding uncertainty for global businesses already grappling with supply chain issues, rising costs, and consumer unease. The U.S. Federal Reserve has warned that these tariffs are also contributing to higher consumer prices in the United States.
