Trinidad and Tobago: Caribbean Airlines Under Fire for Missing Audits

In Trinidad and Tobago, Finance Minister Dr. Vendraat Tancoo has revealed that Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) spent over TT$60 million on audits but failed to submit a single audited financial statement to the Ministry of Finance in more than nine years.

Speaking during his budget presentation for the Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led opposition, Tancoo sharply criticized former Finance Minister Colm Imbert for continuing to approve funding for CAL between 2017 and March 2025, despite the airlineโ€™s lack of accountability.

He claimed that this negligence contributed to a decline in efficiency, turning the airline into a national liability.

In related developments, Caribbean Airlines confirmed the immediate resignation of CEO Garvin Medera, with Chief Operating Officer Nirad Maharaj now serving as Acting CEO.

Minister Tancoo also announced new tax measures, highlighting the strong performance of the country’s commercial banking and insurance sectors.

Grenada: Former Minister Warns Against U.S. Military Presence

Turning to Grenada, former Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David has urged citizens to reject a U.S. proposal to position military assets in the country, warning that such a move could destabilize the Southern Caribbean.

David emphasized that Grenada must prioritize diplomacy and regional cooperation, particularly amid rising security and drug trafficking concerns.

In a statement, he reaffirmed Grenadaโ€™s commitment to non-interference and peaceful dialogue, cautioning that unilateral military action could escalate tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela.

He called for national unity, urging Grenadians to put sovereignty and dignity above partisan politics.

International: Hamas Executes Suspected Collaborators in Gaza

And finally, on the international scene, Hamas fighters tightened their grip on Gaza on Tuesday after carrying out public executions, defying international pressure and Israelโ€™s insistence that the war will not end until the group is disarmed.

According to reports, seven men accused of collaborating with Israeli forces were executed publicly in Gaza City, with videos confirming the act circulating on social media.

Eyewitnesses said Hamas fighters have become increasingly visible, patrolling key routes used for humanitarian aid deliveries.

Palestinian security sources report that dozens of people have been killed in recent days amid clashes between Hamas and rival factions, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
