VENEZUELAN OPPOSITION LEADER MARÍA CORINA MACHADO WINS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who remains in hiding, has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her courageous fight against dictatorship in Venezuela. The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised her for defending democracy and freedom under authoritarian rule.
Machado, 58, was barred from running in the 2024 elections against President Nicolás Maduro but continued to campaign for her party’s candidate, Edmundo González. Despite arrests of several of her aides, Machado’s movement has drawn massive public support. She becomes the first Venezuelan and sixth Latin American to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. It is unclear if she will attend the December 10 ceremony in Oslo.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO GRANTED U.S. LICENSE FOR DRAGON GAS PROJECT
Trinidad and Tobago has officially been granted a U.S. Treasury Department OFAC license to pursue the Dragon Gas Project with Venezuela. The announcement was made by Attorney General John Jeremie, who confirmed that the six-month license—valid until April 2026—permits cross-border energy collaboration.
The project aims to boost regional energy production and strengthen economic ties between Port of Spain and Caracas. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar welcomed the development, calling it a “milestone for Caribbean energy cooperation.”
GRENADA REVIEWS U.S. REQUEST TO INSTALL RADAR EQUIPMENT
The Government of Grenada is reviewing a formal request from the United States government to install temporary radar systems and deploy technical personnel at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.
The proposal, currently under review by Grenada’s Ministries of National Security, Foreign Affairs, and Legal Affairs, seeks to enhance regional air surveillance.
Authorities assured that no decision will be made until all assessments are completed, emphasizing that national sovereignty, public safety, and tourism protection will guide the outcome.
