Opposition Demands Answers as Funding for ‘Shell Company’ Doubles to $20M
NASSAU, Bahamas – Opposition Leader Michael Pintard has issued a blistering demand for answers from Prime Minister Philip Davis, labeling the government’s handling of the Carmichael Village Project Development Company as “outrageous and unacceptable.”
In a formal letter dispatched to the Prime Minister on November 23, 2025, Pintard questioned why taxpayer funds injected into the entity—which the Opposition characterizes as a “shell company”—doubled to over $20 million during the three-month period ending in September.
The controversy stems from the Ministry of Finance’s recently published debt report for the first quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The data revealed that the entity’s borrowing indebtedness surged by more than 100 percent during that period without any accompanying explanation from the government.
“We demand a wholesome explanation on the financing circumstances surrounding the Carmichael Village Project Development Company,” Pintard wrote.
The Free National Movement (FNM) has also seized on data regarding utility debts. The same Ministry of Finance report indicated that Bahamas Power and Light’s (BPL) debts owed to the government increased by $57.1 million—or 33.5 percent—during the summer of 2025.
Latrae Rahming, the Prime Minister’s Director of Communications, did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

US General to Meet PM Persad-Bissessar Following Terror Designation for Maduro
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – High-level security talks are set for Tuesday between the Trinidad and Tobago government and the United States military, just hours after the Trump administration designated Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his government as a “dangerous terrorist organization.”
General Dan Kaine, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and the highest-ranking American military officer, arrived in Trinidad on Tuesday to meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the meeting is being held at the specific request of the United States. Discussions will focus on the “strong bilateral relationship” between the two nations, strengthening regional stability, and the vital importance of countering illicit drug trafficking and transnational criminal organizations.
The US Embassy confirmed the visit in a media release on Monday afternoon. While the Prime Minister has welcomed the visit, specific details regarding the time and location of the meeting were withheld for security reasons. Further details are expected to be released to the press following the conclusion of the talks.

US Army Secretary Holds Talks with Russian Officials in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI – In an intense new push by the Trump administration to end the war in Ukraine, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held talks with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi late Monday and Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Secretary Driscoll stated that US and Ukrainian officials are attempting to “narrow the gaps” regarding a peace plan. However, core issues remain unresolved.
Reports indicate that the Ukrainian government remains wary of the negotiations, fearing they may be strong-armed into accepting a deal that is largely dictated by the Kremlin’s terms. The Abu Dhabi meeting marks a significant escalation in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
