CARICOM: A “Critical Point” in the Fight for Reparatory Justice

By| Antonio Dey | HGP Nightly News|

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC) has declared that the global movement for reparatory justice has reached a historic turning point. In a powerful message marking the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery, the Commission signaled that the era of “Global Africa” has arrived to demand accountability for centuries of exploitation.

  • The Decade for Reparations: The CRC officially welcomed the African Union Decade for Reparations (2026–2035), calling it a landmark commitment to dismantling the systemic racism born from chattel enslavement and genocide.
  • Fueling European Growth: The Commission reiterated that the trafficking of 15 million Africans was the engine that fueled European economic dominance while systematically underdeveloping the Caribbean and Africa—a disparity that continues to shape global inequality today.
  • The 10-Point Plan: The CRC remains anchored by the CARICOM Ten-Point Plan for Reparatory Justice, which seeks formal apologies, debt cancellation, and psychological rehabilitation for the descendants of the enslaved.

Dominica: Prime Minister Skerrit to Finalize U.S. Migrant Agreement

ROSEAU, DOMINICA — Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has confirmed that Dominica is on the verge of signing a strategic agreement with Washington to host third-country refugees. The deal, expected to be finalized this week, addresses scenarios where the U.S. cannot return individuals to their country of birth.

  • The “28 Person” Cap: Skerrit clarified that the draft agreement is modest in scale, calling for a maximum of seven migrants to be sent to Dominica every four months—totaling no more than 28 individuals per year.
  • Bilateral Compromise: The Prime Minister emphasized that while logistical details are still being ironed out, the move is a gesture of “agreement and compromise” aimed at strengthening the vital bilateral relationship between Dominica and the United States.
  • Strategic Partnership: Skerrit noted that as a head of government, it is his duty to find common ground with major international partners on sensitive regional migration issues.

International: Trump Warns Iran to “Get Serious” Amid Global Fuel Crisis

THE PERSIAN GULF — As the Middle East conflict enters its fourth week, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark ultimatum to Tehran on Thursday: “get serious” about a ceasefire or face further military obliteration.

  • The Global Fallout: The humanitarian toll is rising sharply, but the economic impact is being felt worldwide as fuel shortages spread across the globe, forcing nations and corporations into a state of emergency.
  • The “Indirect” Channel: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister confirmed that “indirect talks” are currently flowing through Islamabad, with Turkey and Egypt acting as secondary mediators.
  • Tehran’s Defiance: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has pushed back against Trump’s narrative, stating that while they are reviewing the U.S. proposal, there are “no negotiations” occurring. Araqchi emphasized that Iran remains focused on “resistance” rather than dialogue.
  • Trump’s Retort: Despite Iran’s stance, Trump claimed the Iranian regime is “militarily obliterated” and privately “begging” for a deal, though he stopped short of naming his specific contacts within the Iranian leadership.
