‘PEARLY’ MOBILE APP LAUNCHED IN BARBADOS TO STREAMLINE ACCESS TO PUBLIC SERVICES

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — A newly developed mobile application named “Pearly” is set to modernize how citizens interact with public infrastructure in Barbados, offering a centralized platform to report civic issues and track government responses in real time.

Launched on Tuesday, the application leverages geolocation data and user-generated image uploads to automatically route complaints to the appropriate state authority. This automated dispatch system eliminates the historical bottleneck of citizens having to manually determine which specific government department or agency holds jurisdiction over an infrastructure issue.

The tech firm’s founder and Chief Executive Officer emphasized that Pearly is designed to expand beyond a simple reporting tool. The platform features an interactive information hub dubbed “Ask Pearly” to assist users with municipal inquiries and public transportation schedules. For state regulators, the app functions as a transparent tool for civic accountability, tracking the life cycle of every submission from initial logging to final resolution.

PAHO REGIONAL REPORT URGES HIGHER ALCOHOL TAXATION TO COMBAT AMERICAS HEALTH CRISIS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has issued an aggressive policy recommendation calling on member states across the Americas to implement higher excise taxes on alcohol and sugary beverages to curb rising disease and mortality rates.

According to PAHO’s 2025 Regional Report, harmful alcohol consumption remains one of the primary global risk factors driving chronic disease, physical injury, and premature mortality. The international health body explicitly characterized heavy drinking as a paramount public health threat across the Western Hemisphere.

Citing an extensive body of global economic and epidemiological data, PAHO noted that price increases driven by targeted taxation are consistently linked to sharp reductions in overall alcohol intake, binge drinking, and alcohol-attributable medical costs. Backed by the World Health Organization (WHO), PAHO reiterated that raising excise duties is recognized as one of the most cost-effective, evidence-based interventions available to protect public health budgets.

TRUMP WARNS IRAN ‘WILL PAY THE PRICE’ AS REGIONAL CONFLICT ESCALATES FOLLOWING BASE STRIKES

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Iran would “have to pay the price” for delaying diplomatic negotiations, casting severe doubt over the continuation of regional peace talks following a dangerous military escalation.

Tensions spiked dramatically after President Trump confirmed that Iranian forces had downed a U.S. military helicopter. Both crew members onboard the aircraft were successfully rescued by American recovery teams. In retaliation, Tehran launched a coordinated wave of ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. military bases located in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Frontline defense officials reported that the strikes resulted in no American casualties or structural damage to the installations.

In response to the hostilities, the Iranian government stated it would completely reassess its diplomatic engagement with Washington, pointing to what it described as repeated U.S. ceasefire violations. Meanwhile, the United States, Australia, and European allies have issued a unified joint statement condemning Tehran’s military maneuvers and calling for immediate regional stabilization.
