Trinidad & Tobago: Rash of Kidnappings and Murders Raises Alarm
Police in Trinidad and Tobago are investigating three kidnappings in just one week — two of which ended in murders, and a third still unresolved as of 7:00 p.m. Monday.
The most recent case involves a 44-year-old mother, Jankei Sattie Kareem, of Ampu Street, Spring Village, Valsayn. Reports indicate that around 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Kareem was traveling with her family in a white Toyota Hilux when three masked gunmen intercepted the vehicle and abducted her.
As of this report, no ransom demand has been made.
Gonzales Murders: Families Call for Action to Save Troubled Youths
Still in Trinidad, the families of three young men murdered in Gonzales on Sunday are pleading for increased intervention to prevent youths from falling prey to gang violence.
The victims — Davy Lamite (32), Michael Ross (24), and Josiah Maloney (23) — were off-duty police officers standing on the corner of Lounge and Jubilee Streets when gunmen exited a black Nissan Almera and opened fire.
The men attempted to flee but were shot and killed. A small child had been at the scene just minutes prior. All three victims were rushed to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
Residents say community safety programs and youth mentorship are now more urgent than ever.
INTERNATIONAL: Putin Unfazed by Trump’s Sanctions Threats Amid Ukraine War
Turning to international news, Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly refused calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine, vowing to continue the war until the West agrees to peace on his terms.
Sources close to the Kremlin say former U.S. President Donald Trump, now a candidate again, expressed frustration over Putin’s intransigence and has announced new weapons shipments to Ukraine, including Patriot surface-to-air missiles.
Trump is also said to have threatened harsher sanctions unless a peace deal is brokered within 50 days.
