St. Lucia: Family Grieves After Deadly Weekend Shooting

A community in Dennery, St. Lucia, is in mourning following the tragic murder of 36-year-old Jimmy Charles, one of two reported killings over the weekend. Police say Charles was gunned down around 9:17 p.m. on Friday, June 27, in the Tomaso area. His body was found in a roadside shed with multiple gunshot wounds.

Graphic footage of the incident quickly circulated online. Charles’s mother-in-law, Janet John, said her daughter—the mother of Charles’s two children—is devastated by the news.

“She’s really, really down from the time it happened,” John said.

Cayman Islands: Privy Council Upholds Same-Sex Civil Partnerships

In a landmark ruling, London’s Privy Council—the highest court of appeal for the British Overseas Territories—has upheld the Cayman Islands’ 2020 civil partnership law that allows same-sex couples legal recognition.

The law, introduced by former Governor Martin Roper after local lawmakers narrowly voted against it, was challenged by attorney Kina Anglin, who argued it violated the islands’ constitution. However, the court ruled in favor of the civil partnership legislation, stating that constitutional human rights must be upheld regardless of parliamentary votes.

Campaign group Colours Caribbean hailed the ruling as a victory for equality and human dignity.

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk reignited his feud with US lawmakers—particularly those aligned with former President Donald Trump—over a sweeping tax and spending bill. Musk took to his platform, X, labeling the bill “utterly insane and destructive.”

Musk promised to politically unseat lawmakers who campaigned on fiscal restraint but voted in favor of the bill. He also called for the creation of a new political party:

“Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people,” Musk posted.
