The United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday formally adopted Guyana’s Fourth Cycle Universal Periodic Review (UPR), marking the end of a process that began in May 2025.
The adoption took place in Geneva, following months of national consultations, dialogue, and negotiations on Guyana’s human rights commitments. The UPR process allows UN member states to review and provide recommendations to strengthen a country’s approach to human rights.
Guyana’s participation in the Fourth Cycle reflects the government’s ongoing engagement with the international community to uphold democratic values, protect fundamental freedoms, and address gaps in its human rights framework.
Officials say the adoption signals a critical opportunity for Guyana to translate commitments into action by implementing the recommendations put forward during the review process.
