In partnership with the United Nations, the Government of Guyana on Tuesday hosted a national forum under the theme “Guyana’s Climate Leadership and Journey to the 30th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC: Bridging Action, Finance, and Inclusion.”

The event, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, forms part of Guyana’s preparations for COP30, which will be held from November 10 to 21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil, and is expected to mark a pivotal moment in global climate action.

UN Resident Coordinator Jean Kamau described COP30 as a “defining moment” for the world, stressing that Guyana’s leadership is vital in bridging the gap between ambition and implementation.

“COP30 must be a turning point where countries bridge the gap between climate ambition and action, between global pledges and local realities, and between promises made and promises kept,” Kamau said.

Paulo Valença, Counsellor at the Embassy of Brazil, noted that the upcoming conference signals a shift from decades of dialogue to concrete climate solutions.

“We are crossing the bridge from what we should do to what we will do,” he remarked.

Pradeepa Bholanauth, Senior Director of Climate and REDD+ at the Ministry of Natural Resources, emphasized that Guyana’s preparations for COP30 are based on its Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, which has already yielded measurable outcomes.

“Through LCDS 2030, Guyana has moved from ideas to implementation, translating the global discourse on climate finance into real results,” she said.

Bholanauth added that Guyana remains committed to advancing integrity in carbon markets, promoting nature-based solutions, and ensuring fair valuation of ecosystem services, while continuing to enhance transparency and accountability.

“We will also continue to strengthen transparency and reporting, aligning biennial transparency reports to results-based finance mechanisms,” she emphasized.

The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts, focusing on financing, inclusion, and measurable climate action. A Leaders’ Summit is scheduled ahead of the conference from November 6–7, 2025, setting the stage for what many see as a decisive moment in the fight against climate change.
