GROVE TO GOOD SUCCESS ROAD PROJECT FINALLY COMPLETED, RESIDENTS, COMMUTERS AND BUSINESS COMMUNITY LAUD QUALITY OF WORK

The long-awaited $3 billion Diamond/Grove to Good Success road project has finally been completed, bringing an end to months of severe traffic congestion that affected thousands of commuters, residents, and nearby businesses along the East Bank Demerara corridor.

The project, executed across six lots by six contractors, involved the complete demolition of the old carriageway and the widening of the roadway from its previous width to 17.14 metres. According to the Ministry of Public Works, the upgrade required deep excavation—up to 62 inches—before placing and compacting engineered highway materials.

Officials explained that the project incorporated advanced geotechnical and geosynthetic technology, including geotextile reinforcement, geocell confinement, and a specially formulated asphalt mix designed to withstand the heavy and growing traffic patterns along the corridor.

Although the construction brought months of dust, delays, and inconvenience, residents and business owners say the final result has surpassed expectations.

Residents & Business Owners Welcome the Change

Many expressed satisfaction with the wider roadway, improved flow of traffic, and enhanced access:

“It’s very nice… the spaciousness is good. Parking is better and the traffic is flowing much smoother now,” one commuter said.

Another business owner, who operates several trucks in the area, praised the quality of work:

“I really appreciate how it turned out. Before, there were a lot of hiccups, but now that it’s done, I feel very good about it.”

Even those who endured the worst of the disruptions now say the outcome was worth the inconvenience.

East Bank Upgrade Critical for National Traffic Flow

The Ministry of Public Works had long emphasized that expanding and reinforcing the East Bank corridor was crucial, as the roadway has been under significant stress from the rapid increase in vehicle numbers and heavy-duty trucks.

With the upgraded thoroughfare now completed, the government anticipates:

  • Reduced commute times
  • Smoother traffic flow
  • Safer driving conditions
  • Better accommodation for commercial transportation

The completed road is expected to ease one of the country’s busiest transportation arteries, improving mobility for tens of thousands of Guyanese daily.
