Guyana-Grenada Direct Flights Promoted at Giftland Mall Event

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – The Giftland Mall was transformed into a vibrant cultural and tourism hub on Thursday as Guyana and Grenada strengthened bilateral ties through a promotional event showcasing direct flights and tourism packages between the two countries.

The initiative, led by InterCaribbean Airways and the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA), comes after the launch of direct flights last year between Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada.

Spice Island on Display

Speaking to HGP Nightly News, Tanya Charles, Director of the Grenada Tourism Authority and Sales & Marketing Director at InterCaribbean Airways, expressed excitement about the opportunity to boost two-way travel, trade, and tourism:

“We’re here at Giftland Mall with our travel partners including True Blue Resort, Sea Breeze Hotel, Bay House, and of course InterCaribbean. It’s all about letting Guyanese know why Grenada should be their next vacation.”

Taste, Travel, and Tourism Prizes

Attendees were treated to samples of Grenadian-inspired cuisine, prepared by a Guyanese caterer, along with traditional Grenadian drinks and steelpan music. The event also featured a chance to win two vacation trips to Grenada, along with hotel stays and island experiences courtesy of the partnering resorts and InterCaribbean Airways.

“You can book your trip, enjoy special offers, and walk away with a full Grenadian experience—right here in Guyana,” Charles added.

Tourism-Driven Trade

The event also served as a platform for meetings with local travel agents and tourism stakeholders. Charles noted that these interactions are vital to developing trade and commerce opportunities between the two Caribbean nations:

“We’re helping travel agents understand how to market Grenada and showcasing what makes it unique—not just for tourists, but also for business partnerships.”

Grenadian chef Yon John was also present, preparing authentic dishes to further immerse guests in the culinary richness of the “Spice Island.”

Highlights:

  • Travel booths promoting Grenadian resorts and culture
  • Steelpan music and Grenadian-flavored drinks
  • Vacation giveaways and hotel stay prizes
