GPSCCU Celebrates Over 80 Bursary Awardees, Empowering Future Leaders Through Education

More than eighty students received financial support at the Guyana Public Service Cooperative Credit Union’s (GPSCCU) annual bursary award ceremony, held to recognize and assist outstanding performers across the country.

Chief Executive Officer Christopher Thompson revealed that the bursaries, each valued between $100,000 and $250,000, reflect the credit union’s continued investment in education and youth development.

“Over the last five years, we’ve given out approximately 600 bursary awards,” Thompson noted. “The foundation of this program is built on people helping people — a tangible expression of community support.”

The CEO also highlighted GPSCCU’s modernization efforts, including digital access to accounts and faster loan processing, with over 500 loans issued monthly and 6,000 members benefiting annually.

Delivering the feature address, Karen Abrams, founder of STEM Guyana, encouraged students to embrace technology as a tool for innovation and nation-building.

“Many of you have the latest devices, and that’s great. But remember, the real power of technology lies behind those screens — in creating, not just consuming,” Abrams said.

The GPSCCU reaffirmed its commitment to breaking down financial barriers to education, emphasizing that empowering young people through learning remains central to its mission.

“We see each of these awardees as future leaders,” the organization stated, pledging to continue supporting students in achieving their dreams.
