GOV’T PROBES THREAT AGAINST CANU DIRECTOR, SAYS INTIMIDATION WILL NOT WORK

HGP Nightly News – The Government says it is treating as a serious criminal matter a video circulating on social media that appears to contain threats against Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit Director James Singh, warning that any attack on law enforcement officials will be met with firm legal action.

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs said law enforcement agencies have already launched an active investigation into the video and are working to determine its origin, authenticity and intent. Authorities, the ministry said, are also taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of those targeted.

The Government’s response comes at a time when CANU has been stepping up anti-narcotics operations across the country. According to the ministry, the unit removed more than 371 kilograms of narcotics from circulation during the first quarter of 2026 and disrupted several trafficking networks through intelligence-led enforcement. While noting that background, the Government said it is not drawing conclusions about the source or motive behind the threat while the investigation remains underway.

Even so, the ministry made its position clear, saying intimidation will not be allowed to derail law enforcement efforts. It stressed that threats against public officials, particularly those involved in front-line anti-crime work, are not matters that will be taken lightly.

The Government also used the moment to reaffirm its broader anti-crime posture, saying the effort to dismantle organised criminal networks, both local and transnational, will continue with what it described as resolve, coordination and focus. It said no individual or group will be allowed to threaten officials charged with upholding the law or weaken the national fight against crime.
