GOV’T AND U.S PARTNERS TO EMBARK ON MINERAL MAPPING EXERCISE, COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

By Antonio Dey |HGP Nightly News.

Guyana has embarked on a major mineral mapping project aimed at identifying gold deposits and other valuable minerals across the country.

The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), the Ministry of Natural Resources, and U.S.-based firm Global Venture Consulting.

Officials say the project is expected to modernize Guyana’s mining database, providing scientific data that can attract investment, strengthen oversight, and guide decision-making in the extractive sector.

Importantly, both the government and its U.S. partners underscored that the mapping exercise will be conducted with strict adherence to environmental sustainability, ensuring protection of Guyana’s forests and biodiversity while pursuing mineral exploration.

Authorities believe the project will also support long-term planning, revenue transparency, and better regulation of the mining sector, aligning with Guyana’s development goals under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030.
