Gov’t Warns of Escalating Threats from Transnational Crime Networks

On Friday, August 22, 2025, the Government of Guyana issued a strongly worded statement voicing grave concern over the rise of transnational organized crime and its impact on the region.

Authorities noted that criminal syndicates—including Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles, which has been designated a terrorist organization by several countries—pose a direct threat to democratic institutions, the rule of law, and regional stability.

The statement underscored that such networks not only fuel illicit trade and corruption but also undermine development and human dignity, jeopardizing the Caribbean’s long-standing commitment to remain a zone of peace.

President Irfaan Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to international cooperation, pledging that the country will actively support initiatives to dismantle criminal organizations. Guyana has also vowed to strengthen partnerships at the national, regional, hemispheric, and global levels while continuing to work closely with bilateral allies and security frameworks.

The government stressed that unity and collaboration are essential to confronting these growing threats and safeguarding peace across the hemisphere.
