The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has launched its fourth Harmony Club pilot programme at St. Ambrose Primary School, as part of national efforts to promote peace, tolerance, and cultural awareness among young learners.
Previous Harmony Clubs were launched at Selman’s Primary, St. Gabriel’s Primary, and Cummings Lodge Primary.
Commissioner Reverend Ronald Porter, a former student of St. Ambrose, told the gathering that harmony begins with understanding—and understanding starts with education.
“In a country as beautifully diverse as Guyana, it is important that our children learn about all the cultures, races, and religions that surround them,” he said.
District Education Officer Wendy Johnson and Senior Mistress Mercer Williams echoed similar sentiments.
The pilot schools will help develop the foundation for future modules, student-led initiatives, and expansion into other regions. The ERC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, teachers, parents, PTAs, and students for their support of the initiative.
