HGP Nightly News – What was first reported as a fatal crash on the Enmore Public Road has now become a double tragedy, following the death of Police Sergeant Darrel Wilson. Wilson had been battling serious injuries since last Sunday night’s collision, which had already claimed the life of 27-year-old Keshon Arthur, a labourer.
Police had earlier reported that Wilson was driving motor car PAM 3828 west along the Enmore Public Road when Arthur, who was behind the wheel of motor car PAB 1013, allegedly moved into his lane while overtaking several vehicles.
In an effort to avoid the crash, Wilson reportedly pulled further to the southern side of the roadway. However, the two vehicles still collided, with Arthur’s car striking the right front section of Wilson’s vehicle.
The impact left both drivers trapped and injured. Public-spirited citizens and Emergency Medical Technicians assisted in removing them from the vehicles before taking them to the Enmore Regional Hospital.
Arthur was pronounced dead on arrival. Wilson was admitted with a broken right leg and several lacerations to his face and body, but he later died from his injuries.
Police are continuing investigations into the accident, which has now left two families mourning and renewed concerns over dangerous overtaking on public roads.
