Day 40 of the Election Fraud Trial continued on Tuesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, with the proceedings focusing on continued cross-examination and detailed testimony from multiple police witnesses.

During the morning session, former Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo re-entered the witness box for ongoing cross-examination by the Prosecution as part of his voir dire testimony. Mingo, who oversaw Region Four during the contentious March 2020 General and Regional Elections, has maintained that he felt unwell during the events in question.

Following Mingo’s testimony, Lance Corporal Devon Benjamin, stationed at the CID Headquarters Registry, took the stand. Benjamin, who serves as a document custodian, provided evidence regarding his involvement in the investigative process.

The court then heard from Detective Assistant Superintendent Komal Pitama, who testified that he assisted in the investigation on August 25, 2020. Pitama said he acted as the scribe while Detective Senior Superintendent Mitchell Caesar interviewed with Mingo.

In the afternoon session, Caesar entered the witness box and detailed his role in the investigation. Attorney Nigel Hughes later cross-examined him.

The trial is set to continue on November 19.

Nine people are currently facing charges connected to the alleged attempt to manipulate the results of the March 2020 General and Regional Elections.
Among the accused are:

  • Clairmont Mingo, former Region Four Returning Officer
  • Keith Lowenfield, former Chief Elections Officer
  • Roxanne Myers, former Deputy CEO
  • Volda Lawrence, former PNCR Chairperson
  • Carol Smith-Joseph, PNCR activist
  • GECOM staff members Sheffern February, Enrique Livan, Michelle Miller, and Denise Babb-Cummings

In total, the defendants face 19 conspiracy-related charges. The Prosecution has indicated it intends to call approximately 73 witnesses throughout the trial.
