Only one witness testified on Friday as the election fraud trial entered its 38th day before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The case has since been adjourned to November 17, 2025, for continuation.
Detective Inspector Shane James, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Major Crimes Unit, took the stand to testify about his involvement in the 2020 election-related investigation.
Inspector James told the court that on August 30, 2020, while on duty, he was instructed to report to the Vigilance Police Station, where he made contact with Enrique Livan, who was in police custody at the time. He recounted that he later escorted Livan to the CID headquarters for a video-recorded interview.
James further testified that Livan requested to contact his attorney, Eusi Anderson, before the interview proceeded—a request that was granted. The questioning resumed at CID headquarters following the consultation.
After completing his testimony, Inspector James was cross-examined by defense attorney Nigel Hughes.
The charges before the court arise from investigations into the March 2020 General and Regional Elections, during which several former GECOM officials and associates were accused of attempting to manipulate election results.
In total, the defendants face 19 conspiracy charges linked to alleged electoral fraud. The prosecution has indicated plans to call approximately 73 witnesses over the course of the trial.
The proceedings will continue on November 17, 2025.
