A 26-year-old police constable stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) was arrested early Wednesday morning after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The Guyana Police Force’s Corporate Communications Unit reported that Constable Arion Granham was apprehended by his colleagues while parked in a vehicle at Riverview around 1:30 a.m. Despite claiming to be on sick leave, a search of his car revealed a .32 Taurus pistol, one magazine, and 11 matching rounds.
When questioned, Granham admitted he had no license for the weapon and claimed it was for his personal use, specifically for protection. He was arrested, cautioned, and taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station. The firearm, ammunition, and vehicle were subsequently lodged as evidence.
In a separate operation, ranks from the Narcotics Branch uncovered a significant stash of guns, ammunition, and drugs at Crown Dam, Paradise, also on Wednesday.
Officers found two bulky plastic bags concealed in bushes. One bag contained 698 grams of cannabis, and the other held 1,386 grams of cocaine in transparent wrapping inside a small white bucket. The bucket also contained a .45 pistol, a magazine, and 24 rounds of ammunition.
Despite the large haul, no arrests were made at the scene. Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
