CONTAINER CITY RESIDENTS FRUSTRATED AS MAIN ACCESS BLOCKED DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Residents of Contain City Demand Urgent Action on Road Blockage Disrupting Daily Life

Residents of Contain City, located behind the John Fernandes Container Terminal off Mandela Avenue, are voicing growing frustration and concern over a road construction project that has severely restricted access to their community. The main route used by residents to reach work, school, and other essential services has been dug up, leaving them stranded and uncertain.

One resident, visibly upset, described the project as “spitefulness,” questioning the purpose and coordination of the work:

“This is not a dam for pigs or dogs — human beings live here. When vote time come, they come right to the back here,” another resident, Tracy, lamented.

Others, like Mark Simple, clarified they are not against development but criticized the lack of consideration for residents.

“Start doing this so people could maneuver comfortably,” he said.

Parents are also concerned that the condition of the road is affecting their children’s ability to attend school.

“Some days the children can’t even go because the place is slush,” one mother said.

A police officer living in the area said that upon inquiring about the construction, she was told conflicting stories and found out that multiple contractors appear to be working without coordination.

“Three or four different people doing their own thing,” she noted.

Despite several attempts, no official explanation has been provided by Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill or the relevant authorities. Residents are calling for urgent intervention to restore access, improve communication, and complete the project in a coordinated and timely manner.
