Georgetown, Guyana – September 25, 2025 – The fiery strike that shook Linden’s bauxite belt has been temporarily halted. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning stepped in to end the escalating standoff between BOSAI Bauxite Mining Company workers and management, striking a delicate deal that sends employees back to work; at least for now.
Chief Labour Officer Dhaneshwar Deonarine chaired a tense meeting between BOSAI executives and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE), where both sides hammered out a Terms of Resumption agreement. The conditions were clear: the union must call off the strike immediately, all workers must return to their posts on September 26, and both sides pledged no victimization as the “status quo ante” is restored.
But the battle is far from over. The real showdown is scheduled for Monday, September 29, when BOSAI, NAACIE, and the Ministry will meet again for formal conciliation talks aimed at addressing the root causes of the strike. Wages, safety, and fairness are expected to dominate the agenda.
In a statement, the Ministry hailed the truce as a constructive step toward industrial peace, stressing its commitment to “fostering a harmonious industrial relations climate” while ensuring workers’ grievances are not brushed aside. For Linden, the heart of Guyana’s mining industry, all eyes are now on next week’s talks, where the promise of long-term resolution will be tested.
