APNU STILL COMMITTED TO A UNITED FRONT AS OPPOSITION, WIN MP SARABO-HALLEY SAYS PARTIES MUST FULLY UNDERSTAND CHANGE IN POLITICAL LANDSCAPE TO BETTER FOSTER COHESION

Amid what observers describe as recurring tensions between the opposition parties, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and We Invest In Nationhood (WIN), APNU leaders have reiterated their commitment to unity, reform, and the rule of law, stressing that collaboration remains central to their political mandate.

Speaking with HGPTV Nightly News, APNU Regional Democratic Councillor for Region Four, Shaneka Haynes, dismissed perceptions that the party has closed itself off to cooperation, insisting that dialogue remains a priority.

“The APNU always has the door open for talks of unity and collaboration at any level,” Haynes said.

Her comments come as both APNU and WIN have faced public criticism for what some view as an inability to consistently present a united opposition front. Haynes, however, maintained that APNU’s approach is guided by its responsibility to the Guyanese electorate rather than by partisan rivalry.

She emphasized that APNU’s mandate is rooted in the best interests of the people, adding that unity, reform, and adherence to the rule of law continue to define the party’s posture in Parliament and at the regional level.

APNU Member of Parliament Ganesh Mahipaul also acknowledged that cooperation with WIN has not always been seamless, but said the party remains willing to engage constructively, particularly in light of the evolving political landscape and the election of Azruddin Mohamed as Leader of the Opposition.

Mahipaul noted that the changing dynamics in Parliament require flexibility and strategic adjustment, signalling APNU’s readiness to adapt its opposition tactics where necessary.

Haynes further underscored that APNU is prepared to work not only with WIN, but with any political grouping committed to accountability and exposing corruption within the current administration.

“No matter what is happening, we are committed to seeing whoever we need to work with to put the PPP/C under pressure and to facilitate the betterment of our citizens,” she said.

From WIN’s perspective, Member of Parliament Tabitha Sarabo-Halley highlighted the importance of recognising the new political realities that emerged after the last elections. She said WIN remains open to discussions with other opposition parties and is hopeful that improved understanding will lead to meaningful collaboration.

“WIN has not taken the stance that we are unable or unwilling to have discussions with other members of the opposition. We are hoping that in the near future we can move forward and have fruitful discussions,” Sarabo-Halley stated.

The exchanges between APNU and WIN reflect the broader complexities of opposition politics in Guyana. While differences persist, senior figures on both sides appear to recognise the necessity of engagement and cooperation in pursuit of shared goals—namely, strengthening oversight, improving governance, and advancing the interests of the Guyanese people.
