“Country Over Party”: APNU’s Vinceroy Jordan Backs Call for Strategic Opposition Realignment

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The call for a “political reset” within Guyana’s opposition is gaining significant momentum. Following a blunt challenge from Forward Guyana Movement leader Amanza Walton-Desir, APNU Member of Parliament Vinceroy Jordan has officially signaled his agreement, stating that the time for “petty politics” has passed and the era of “consensus-driven opposition” must begin.
Jordan’s response marks a rare public moment of synergy between the core APNU leadership and newer movements, suggesting that the “combined opposition” may be preparing for a more unified stance on national policy and wealth accountability.
Redefining the “New Dispensation”
MP Jordan acknowledged that while individual parties have their “party lines,” the common goal of challenging the PPP/C administration requires a level of maturity that has often been absent from the local political landscape.
- National Purpose: Jordan emphasized that unity is non-negotiable when it comes to legislation, policy-making, and the management of Guyanese wealth.
- The Maturity Mandate: He called on all opposition figures to value one another’s strengths rather than focusing on internal “point-scoring,” which he believes only benefits the incumbent government.
- Collective Strength: “The opposition combined is very important to the country,” Jordan stated. “I agree to some extent that we need to be united, especially at a time like this.”
The “Open Door” Policy
Addressing concerns that the larger coalition might be insular, Jordan made it clear that A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) is actively looking for collaborators.
- No Closed Doors: The MP insisted that the APNU has not—and will not—close its doors to any opposition party that shares the goal of working for the “good and the will of the people.”
- Consensus over Conflict: He urged leaders to “sit at the table” and find common ground on critical issues such as the cost of living and electoral reform, rather than maintaining a fragmented and easily defeated posture.
- Focusing on the “Uncaring” Label: Jordan argued that a unified front is the only effective way to counter what he characterized as the “uncaring” nature of the PPP/C government’s current policies.
The Road to 2026
The back-to-back endorsements for unity by Walton-Desir and Jordan suggest that a “new course” is indeed being charted for the opposition. As the 2026 general election cycle approaches, the ability of these diverse groups to move beyond the “Description of Problems” to a “Unified Prescription of Solutions” will likely determine their success. For the Guyanese electorate, the prospect of a matured, policy-focused opposition offers a new level of democratic choice—provided the “open doors” mentioned by Jordan lead to real action.
