Free House Lots for Citizens Turning 18 if Elected

Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes, has pledged that every Guyanese citizen will receive a free house lot upon turning 18 years old if the party wins the upcoming general and regional elections.
Speaking on Politics & You with host Bobby Vieira on Thursday, Hughes said the initiative is grounded in the belief that the country’s oil wealth belongs to all Guyanese, fully “paid in advance” by the contributions of their ancestors. He stressed that the policy would ensure every citizen truly owns a piece of the nation and has a stake in its development.
The AFC leader assured that these house lots would be located in communities equipped with modern infrastructure and amenities. Each lot would measure between 7,500 and 10,000 square feet. According to Hughes, the land is available, requiring only proper planning and development.
Hughes described the upcoming elections as the most consequential in the past two decades, citing the economic transformation since the start of commercial oil production in December 2019. He noted that Guyana’s oil output recently reached 900,000 barrels per day — more than one barrel per citizen — but highlighted ongoing disparities in the distribution of national wealth.
