The North Ruimveldt Secondary School, which was destroyed by fire in July 2021, has been officially rebuilt and commissioned—marking a major milestone in Guyana’s education sector.

The new classroom block, constructed at a cost of $566.9 million by Piere Engineering Incorporated under the supervision of Mr. Marcel Gaskin, will now accommodate over 500 pupils. The facility currently serves 415 students (187 boys and 228 girls) and is expected to welcome an additional 156 students with the new intake in September.

The modern school building features smart classrooms, well-equipped science laboratories, and specialized areas for information technology, home management, clothing and textiles, and industrial arts, ensuring enhanced opportunities for STEM and vocational education. Additional amenities include washrooms, a library, staff room, offices, and home economics laboratories.

During the commissioning ceremony, the headmistress expressed gratitude to President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Ministry of Education for their support in restoring the institution.

President Ali, addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of investing in educational infrastructure, noting that the recommissioning of North Ruimveldt Secondary School not only restores a vital institution for the community but also reaffirms the government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality education and modern learning environments for present and future generations.
