President Irfaan Ali Announces Major Upgrades to Vreed En Hoop Stelling

President Irfaan Ali visited the Vreed En Hoop Stelling on Wednesday, highlighting the critical need for upgrades to accommodate the 8.5 million passengers who used the facility in 2024. With commuters traveling between Georgetown and Vreed En Hoop, the president stressed that modernization efforts must begin immediately.
Starting May 1st, work will commence to improve passenger experience and resolve ongoing challenges faced by operators. Efforts include removing logs from the Star Brook bridge stretch at low tide and addressing requests for security enhancements, including the installation of surveillance cameras.
Ali assured the public that upgrades would extend to the Georgetown landing, including enhanced lighting, expanded landing areas, and improved facilities. Marine officers will be stationed to monitor activities at both landings along the Demerara River.
This infrastructure initiative reinforces Guyana’s commitment to modernizing its public transit system while enhancing safety and accessibility for commuters.
