The 2025 election cycle has underscored a troubling reality: voter apathy is on the rise.

Figures released by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Wednesday reveal that of the 757,690 eligible voters, the two traditional political giants — A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) — together lost out on more than 250,000 votes.
Analysts say the figures reflect growing disillusionment among citizens, many of whom chose not to cast their ballots. Political observers note that this failure to mobilize supporters could reshape the future of Guyana’s political landscape, opening the door for newer movements to gain ground.
