A Canadian business delegation, organized by the High Commission of Canada to Guyana, is visiting from October 14–17, 2025, to strengthen trade, innovation, and investment ties between the two nations.
The five participating companies—Bionetix International, Sprig Learning Inc., 4Pay Inc., FreeBalance Inc., and E-Magic Solutions—represent various sectors, including FinTech, ICT, education, infrastructure, and sanitation.
His Excellency Sébastien Sigouin, High Commissioner of Canada to Guyana, told Nightly News that the visit underscores Canada’s continued commitment to aligning its technological expertise with Guyana’s development priorities.
“Many of these companies are here to offer expertise in areas that are relevant and priorities to the Government of Guyana,” Ambassador Sigouin explained.
He added that the visit supports Guyana’s digitalization drive and initiatives aimed at improving literacy in Amerindian communities.
“The President has spoken about digitalisation… we have companies that are here exactly for that—to help out,” Sigouin said.
Throughout the four-day visit, the delegation will engage in high-level meetings with government ministers, business-to-business sessions, and on-site visits to gain a deeper understanding of Guyana’s evolving investment landscape.
Aldo Sagastume, Vice President of Public Financial Management at FreeBalance, highlighted his company’s two-decade partnership with the Government of Guyana.
“We are specialized in public financial management… and we only work for the public sector,” Sagastume stated.
The High Commission of Canada emphasized that the mission is part of a broader effort to enhance commercial cooperation across the Caribbean region.
Guyana and Canada share over 50 years of diplomatic relations, rooted in people-to-people connections, trade, and development partnerships. Canada first opened its High Commission in Georgetown in March 1964, before establishing full diplomatic relations with Guyana upon its independence in May 1966.
