Democracy in Guyana will remain incomplete without stronger trust in the electoral system.

That was the firm message from the European Union Election Observation Mission, which noted that while the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) efficiently managed polling day operations, persistent political influence continues to cast doubt on the Commission’s credibility.
The EU team commended GECOM’s handling of logistics and transparency measures during the 2025 General and Regional Elections. However, they warned that unless confidence in the body’s independence is restored, doubts about fairness and impartiality will continue to undermine Guyana’s democracy.
