Police in Region 9 are investigating the alleged murder of 21-year-old John Elliot, a tour guide attached to Atta Lodge and resident of Surama Village, North Rupununi.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, during Amerindian Heritage Month celebrations at Annai Village.
According to investigators, Elliot was fatally stabbed following a confrontation involving three male suspects. The alleged attackers have been identified as:
- a 16-year-old school dropout from Annai,
- 20-year-old Ronaldo Williams, and
- 18-year-old Orlando Williams, both of Annai.
Police said the stabbing was witnessed by a female rank attached to the Annai Police Station, who positively identified the 16-year-old as the individual who delivered the fatal blow. The teen was later arrested at the Williams brothers’ home. Still, when questioned in the presence of his mother, he denied involvement and instead accused Orlando Williams of carrying out the stabbing.
A medical examination at the Annai District Hospital confirmed Elliot sustained two stab wounds—one to the left side of his chest and another near the right rib area. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, police are continuing efforts to apprehend Ronaldo and Orlando Williams, who remain at large. Investigations are ongoing.
