The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) is on the hunt for three foreign nationals following the discovery of over 50 pounds of cocaine during a major anti-drug operation at Hydronie, Parika, on the East Bank of Essequibo.

Head of CANU, James Singh, confirmed that a targeted late-night raid was carried out at a residence in Parika, where agents intercepted the large quantity of cocaine before it was transshipped overseas.

“Just last night, CANU officers conducted a successful operation, intercepting the cocaine before it was transhipped,” Singh told reporters.

Following the seizure, two Venezuelans and one Colombian were identified as persons of interest. They are:

  • Camilo Morales Gonzalez, a Colombian national of Hadfield Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.
  • Richard Daniel Rodriguez Criollo, Venezuelan national.
  • Hernan Daro Martinez, Venezuelan national.

CANU has since issued wanted bulletins for the trio, who are believed to be key figures in the international drug trafficking network operating through Guyana’s ports. The agency stated that the raid is part of its broader crackdown on transnational narcotics smuggling.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, CANU destroyed over US$19.3 million worth of narcotics along Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown. The destruction exercise followed the completion of several court cases and successful interdictions.

Authorities say operations such as the Parika bust underscore the government’s continued efforts to dismantle drug networks and safeguard Guyana’s borders.
