As tensions continue rising between Guyana and Venezuela, the Centre for International and Border Studies convened a high-level forum featuring experts in diplomacy, international law, and foreign relations to examine Guyana’s response to Venezuela’s escalating provocations critically.
The event brought together regional and international analysts who assessed the current state of affairs, Guyana’s legal standing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the country’s broader diplomatic posture.
Key speakers stressed the importance of strategic communication, regional alliances, and legal preparedness for safeguarding Guyana’s sovereignty—particularly in light of recent Venezuelan claims over the Essequibo region and aggressive naval maneuvers.
Discussions also focused on the role of CARICOM, the United States, and the United Nations and how Guyana can continue to leverage international support to counter Venezuela’s territorial assertions.
The Centre underscored the need for ongoing public education and stronger national unity, as the issue remains critical to Guyana’s future.
