President Dr. Irfaan Ali has told residents of Alexander Village that, in today’s complex global environment, safeguarding Guyana’s sovereignty and national security must remain a top priority. Addressing the crowd ahead of the September 1 general and regional elections, the President urged voters to choose a “trusted international partner” in a PPP/C government to defend the nation’s interests.
Ali stated that over the past five years, his administration has developed the most inclusive and broad-based security partnerships in Guyana’s history, forging multiple strategic alliances to bolster national defense. He stressed the importance of having a wide network of international partners capable of supporting Guyana in safeguarding its borders and maintaining internal security.
He told residents that a vote for the PPP/C is a vote to renew and expand these alliances, strengthen port security, implement an integrated security system to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities, and deepen cooperation with global partners.
Ali’s comments come as political opponents, including the presidential candidate for A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), continue to argue that the government has not done enough to raise awareness or enhance Guyana’s military capacity to protect its sovereignty.
