PIGEON INFESTATION AT BV PRIMARY SCHOOL WORSENS. CLASSES SUSPENDED-PTA DEMANDS MINISTERIAL INTERVENTION

Classes at the Beterverwagting Primary School on the East Coast of Demerara have been suspended after the Parent-Teachers’ Association (PTA) took decisive action to bar students from entering the classrooms due to a severe pigeon infestation.

PTA President Alvin McCurdy said the situation has deteriorated, despite repeated assurances from the Ministry of Education that the issue would be resolved over the weekend. Parents and teachers report that classrooms remain heavily soiled with pigeon droppings, posing a serious health hazard to both students and staff.

Just last week, four pupils were taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital for medical examination. While their illnesses were not officially linked to the infestation, parents say the unsanitary conditions make the school unsafe for learning.

The PTA has made it clear that classes will not resume until the school environment is properly cleaned and the infestation eradicated. They are now calling for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Education to restore safe and healthy conditions for pupils and teachers.
