PAUL SLOWE TO LEAD DEFENCE IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Retired Assistant Police Commissioner Ordered to Lead Defence in Sexual Assault Case

By Antonio Dey | HGP Nightly News

Retired Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Slowe has been ordered to lead his defence in a sexual assault case dating back to 2019, after the court found sufficient evidence for the matter to proceed.

The case was called on Thursday before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the magistrate overruled a no-case submission made by Slowe’s legal team.

Slowe is accused of sexually assaulting a female officer between March 29 and April 2, 2019, by allegedly rubbing her leg and foot without her consent—a charge laid under Section 43 of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, the decision to proceed with the trial was based on arguments presented by Senior Police Legal Adviser and Prosecutor, Attorney-at-Law Mandel Moore, who successfully established sufficient prima facie evidence against Slowe.

The court has adjourned the matter to October 2025, allowing Slowe the opportunity to present his defense. He is being represented by Attorneys-at-Law Nigel Hughes, Dexter Todd, and Dawn Cush.

The allegation stems from an incident involving a female subordinate officer, who reported the matter in 2019. Following thorough investigation, as described by the police, the case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who recommended that criminal charges be filed under the relevant section of the Sexual Offences Act.

Slowe has denied the allegations. The case remains ongoing.
