The North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School (NRMSS) has celebrated its 50th anniversary, bringing together students, alumni, and teachers in a grand celebration of legacies, milestones, and academic achievements.
Founded in 1975, the institution has evolved into one of Guyana’s most prestigious secondary schools, with a reputation for both academic excellence and technical skills training.
Building a Legacy
According to Headteacher Roselin Khan, the 1980s to the 1990s were pivotal years that firmly established the school’s reputation as a leader in secondary education.
By the 2000s, the school’s Alumni Association had become more formally organized, providing critical support to the institution’s growth. Between 2005 and 2013, the school recorded significant performance improvements, strengthening its academic standing.
In 2019, the school achieved an 80% pass rate at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, reaffirming its status as a producer of disciplined and high-achieving students.
A School Tested by Fire
The school’s resilience was put to the test on June 18, 2021, when a devastating fire destroyed the building. The tragedy shook the students, staff, alumni, and the wider community, but also became a rallying point for renewal and rebuilding.
By August 2025, NRMSS was officially recommissioned, symbolizing not just the physical rebuilding of classrooms but also a renewed vision for excellence and service to future generations.
A Future of Excellence
In 2025, the school was formally recognized as an AL School, a distinction that reflects its commitment to academic standards, technical training programmes, and student development.
Today, as the school looks to the future, it continues to nurture leaders, innovators, and professionals destined to leave their mark on society.
