HGP Nightly News – Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed has accused the government of using the Guyana Police Force to target him through the reopening of the Ricardo “Paper Shorts” Fagundes murder investigation.
In a video statement on Monday evening, Mohamed said the investigation is being manipulated to produce a predetermined outcome.
“I have absolutely nothing to do with this crime and I am completely innocent,” he said.
Mohamed alleged that two of his former security guards and an auto dealer were detained as part of an attempt to implicate him in the 2021 murder.
He claimed the renewed investigation followed his recent allegations about President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s farmland.
“I welcome the opening of any and all unsolved murder investigations. However, the problem arises when government officials manipulate the system to get a fixed outcome,” Mohamed said.
He also questioned how many innocent people may have been affected if investigations are influenced by political considerations.
Fagundes was shot dead outside Palm Court in March 2021. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing.
