Veteran Politician Marvin Williams Resigns from PNCR After 40 Years

After serving more than four decades in the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), veteran politician Marvin Williams announced his resignation from both the party and its Central Executive Committee on Sunday.
Williams disclosed PNCR’s televised program Nationwatch, where he described the move as a painful but necessary decision.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce, regrettably, my resignation from the People’s National Congress Reform,” Williams told viewers.
Circumstances Behind the Decision
Williams, who secured the second-highest number of votes at the last Biennial Congress, did not provide explicit reasons for stepping down. However, he referenced a series of “unfortunate occurrences”—some of which predated the September 1 elections but only came to his attention afterwards—that influenced his departure.
“It was a difficult decision, but the circumstances dictate that I take this decision. I contemplated it even before September 1. I have had a good run,” Williams said.
The former Shadow Agriculture Minister stressed that his decision was made after careful consideration, adding that he recognizes the need for the party to go through a rebuilding process.
Future Political Plans
When contacted on Sunday and asked whether he intended to join the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Williams dismissed the idea, noting:
“I, for good reason and sufficient reason and after careful consideration, resigned from my party. That’s where I am.”
PNCR’s Response
On Monday morning, PNCR leader Aubrey Norton confirmed that as of 10:49 a.m., he had not yet received a formal resignation letter from Williams.
