LINDEN, Guyana – Linden’s Mayor and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) candidate, Sharma Solomon, has strongly criticized the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government, accusing it of failing to deliver meaningful development in the township over the last five years.

Speaking on the campaign trail, Solomon charged that several major initiatives completed or underway in Linden were conceptualized by the opposition or past governments, not the current administration.

“Do you see the transformational development in Linden? Point to any single one and show it to me. Don’t tell me about the synthetic track — that’s a coalition foundation. Don’t tell me about the Linden-McKenzie bypass road — that’s a Burnham initiative that needed four lanes, not two. Don’t tell me about the Wismar Bridge — that’s a coalition concept,” Solomon said.

The Mayor also pointed to shortcomings in the education sector, highlighting conditions at the Bamia Primary School as an example of the neglect he claims Linden has faced under the PPP/C.

Solomon further reaffirmed Linden’s long-standing political support for APNU leader and Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton, recalling efforts to ensure Norton’s parliamentary representation in the past.

“When Aubrey Norton didn’t make it to Parliament, we took a bus from Linden — 34 of us — and stood with the leadership of our party. On September 1, Aubrey Norton deserves to be our President,” Solomon declared.

He called on residents of Region 10 to “overwhelmingly” support Norton and APNU in the upcoming September 1 General and Regional Elections, saying Norton has consistently represented the interests of ordinary Guyanese.
