KWAKWANI SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO BE BACK IN THE CLASSROOM BY LATE SEPTEMBER – MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Fire Devastates Kawani Secondary School in Region 10

In the early hours of Sunday, August 24, 2025, a devastating fire ripped through the southwestern section of Kawani Secondary School in Partville, Region 10. According to preliminary reports from the Guyana Police Force, the blaze quickly engulfed the structure, destroying the IT laboratory, head teacher’s office, library, staff room, washrooms, and the auditorium, which had been serving as classrooms.

A high-level team from the Ministry of Education, led by Deputy Chief Education Officer (Administration) Tiffany Harvey and supported by Assistant Chief Education Officers Sherwin Blackman and Saudia Kadir-Grant, visited the scene to assess the damage.

The Ministry has assured that arrangements are being made to resume classes by the final week of September 2025 and pledged that the school will be rebuilt to modern and safer standards to serve the needs of its 420 students and teachers.

Meanwhile, investigators are probing the cause of the fire.
