GFF Launches Early Prep for 2026 Youth Campaigns; Lady Jags to Host Nicaragua
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially commenced early preparations for its National Boys’ and Girls’ Youth Teams, targeting a rigorous calendar of international competition in 2026.
The Federation is eyeing three major Concacaf tournaments scheduled between January and March 2026: the Girls’ Under-17 Qualifiers, the Boys’ Under-17 Qualifiers, and the Boys’ Under-20 Championship. This proactive approach underscores the GFF’s long-term strategy to strengthen the national talent pipeline and ensure competitive readiness on the regional stage.
Training sessions are currently underway under the supervision of local coaches and GFF Technical Director Bryan Joseph. The program will see the integration of international-based players and technical staff closer to the tournament dates to finalize squad preparations.
Lady Jags return to action In senior women’s football, the ‘Lady Jags’ have entered camp ahead of their upcoming Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers. The National Team is set to face Nicaragua in a crucial home fixture on Monday, December 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00h at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora.

Waramuri, Marian Academy Dominant in MVP Sports U-11 Girls Football
Action in the 2025 MVP Sports Girls Under-11 Football Tournament intensified on Saturday at the Ministry of Education Ground, with Waramuri Primary and Marian Academy registering massive victories.
Waramuri Primary proved to be the day’s most prolific team. In Round 2, they dismantled St. Aloysius Primary 10-0, led by five goals from Alina Lewis and a hat-trick from Altia Marks. They followed up with an even more dominant 11-0 thrashing of North Georgetown in Round 3, where Lewis netted a stunning seven goals.
Marian Academy was equally impressive, defeating GIA 8-0. Ella Fernandes starred with a double hat-trick (6 goals), while North Georgetown and West Ruimveldt also secured wins in earlier rounds.
Other notable results included a 7-0 victory for Santa Rosa Primary over Potaro Primary, featuring four goals from Rovenna Johnson.

Guyanese Pair to Battle for Bronze at CASA Senior Championships
It will be an all-Guyana affair for the women’s bronze medal at the 2025 Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships.
After suffering semi-final defeats to Barbadian opponents, teammates Mary Fung-A-Fat and Ashley Khalil will face off for the third podium spot. Fung-A-Fat fell to the tournament’s number one seed, Meghan Best, in straight sets, while Khalil, a former Caribbean champion, lost to defending champion Margot Prow.
In the Men’s division, National Champion Daniel Ince kept Guyana’s title hopes alive by defeating compatriot Jason-Ray Khalil to advance to the semi-finals. Ince faces a formidable challenge against two-time defending champion Khamal Cumberbatch.
The tournament transitions to the team segment on Wednesday, where Guyana is chasing a fifth consecutive overall CASA title.

Windies U-19s Take Commanding 3-1 Series Lead Over England
ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – The West Indies Under-19 team has taken a decisive 3-1 lead in their Youth ODI series against England following a comprehensive 98-run victory at the St. George’s Cricket Ground on Monday.
Sent in to bat, the regional side amassed a formidable 280-7 from their 50 overs. The innings was anchored by half-centuries from captain Joshua Dorne (80 off 104 balls) and a blistering knock from Guyanese all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange, who smashed 80 off just 68 deliveries. Opener Tanez Francis contributed a solid 51.
In reply, England crumbled under pressure, bowling out for 182 in 38.5 overs. Vitel Lawes was the destroyer-in-chief, claiming 4-35, while Shaquan Belle supported well with 3-34.
The fifth match of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at 09:00h at the same venue.

Injury Blow: Perez Ruled Out of Super50 Cup
TRINIDAD – The Guyana Harpy Eagles have suffered a significant setback in the ongoing CG Insurance Regional Super50 Cup with opening batsman Raymond Perez ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to injury.
The 26-year-old sustained a dislocated right shoulder while fielding against the T&T Red Force at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday. Perez was stretchered off the field and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.
Medical assessments have confirmed that Perez will require a broad arm sling for three weeks, followed by a rehabilitation program. The recovery timeline is estimated at six weeks, officially ending his campaign in the regional tournament.
