We begin tonight with basketball.
The Guyana Basketball Federation’s Vice-President, Rawle Toney, has announced via social media that he has been appointed to serve on the Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s (CBC) 3×3 Working Group.
The appointment takes immediate effect and will remain in place until the conclusion of the current CBC Executive term in 2027.
The CBC 3×3 Working Group is responsible for promoting, developing, and regulating 3×3 basketball across the Caribbean in alignment with FIBA standards.
As Guyana’s lone representative on the panel, Toney will help shape the strategic plan for regional 3×3 development, oversee competitions, ensure adherence to tournament standards, and advance grassroots and youth-focused initiatives.
FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship
Into basketball — action resumed on Thursday in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Game 1:
The Bahamas secured a dominant 77–45 victory over Suriname, led by a phenomenal performance from Lashann Higgs, who exploded for 35 points, including an incredible seven 3-pointers, along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Valerie Nesbitt posted a 13-point, 11-assist double-double in the win.
Suriname’s Beyoncé Jedinie fought hard, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Game 2:
Pre-tournament favourites USVI outclassed the host nation Guyana, claiming a 78–54 victory.
USVI’s Anisha George delivered 23 points, four rebounds, and two blocks, while Taylor Jones added 18 points and five rebounds.
Guyana’s Ruth Adams scored a team-high 16 points, and Joy Adams contributed 13 points and 15 rebounds in the 24-point defeat.
The tournament continued today with Suriname vs. USVI at 16:30 hours, followed by Jamaica vs. The Bahamas at 20:30 hours.
Women’s Division 1 Football
Moving into football — action resumed in the 2025 GFF Division 1 Women’s League on Wednesday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Santos FC produced a commanding 7–1 victory over Monedderlust.
Shontell Greene, Afeena Baptiste, and Tyneshia Thorne each scored doubles, while Gabrielle Rivera added one.
Delicia Frazer netted Monedderlust’s lone goal.
Girls U-11 Football
Also in football, the 2025 MVP Sports Girls U-11 Football Tournament kicks off Saturday with eight fixtures at the Ministry of Education Ground.
The opening match begins at 12:00 hrs and will feature Potaro Primary vs All Saints Primary.
ExxonMobil Futsal Championship
And finally, futsal action continued in the 2025 ExxonMobil Guyana Futsal Championship at the Retrieve Tarmac, Linden.
Match 1:
Bombers defeated YMCA “B” 8–2, with Shamiah Samuels scoring a massive six goals, while Dequain Samuels and Joshua Fleming added one each.
Match 2:
Foundation Family beat West-Side Ballers 7–2, powered by a hat-trick from Malcolm Miggins and a double from Shawn Wilson. Shaka Hall and Shamar Caesar also got on the scoresheet.
Match 3:
YMCA “A” overpowered Figgy FC 9–3, with Jamal Bentick scoring a hat-trick. Keyshawn Dey, Jonah Simon, and Jermaine Padmore each finished with doubles.
Match 4:
Hard-Knocks dominated Harball Management 8–1, with Kendolph Lewis scoring five goals, and Kwesi Quintin adding three.
Match 5:
The final match ended in an exciting 4–4 draw between Stabroek and The Salah Family.
Stabroek’s Bevney Marks produced a brilliant hat-trick, while Darrel George scored once.
For the Salah Family, Amoniki Buntin scored a double, and Martin Leacock and Allan Halley each netted one goal.
