Bent Street ‘A’ Crowned 2025 VP Champion of Champions Futsal Winners
Action concluded on Wednesday night in the 2025 VP Champion of Champions Futsal Tournament with three fixtures at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Bent Street ‘A’ delivered a dominant performance to clinch the championship title and the GYD$1,000,000 top prize after defeating Back Circle 4–1 in the final.
The champions capitalised early on an own goal before Bevney Marks netted a superb double and Colin Nelson added another. Ravin Naughton scored Back Circle’s lone goal.
Back Circle secured GYD$500,000 for their second-place finish, while Team Sparta Boss collected GYD$300,000 after defeating Bent Street ‘B’ 3–2 in the third-place playoff. The fourth-place finishers walked away with GYD$200,000.
In the U17 final, Back Circle’s youth side edged Kingston 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
GFF Division 1 Women’s League Wraps Up Tonight
The 2025 GFF Division 1 Women’s League concludes this evening with two fixtures at the National Training Centre, Providence.
The opening match featured Monedderlust FC versus Western Tigers. At the same time, the marquee clash — table-toppers Guyana Defence Force FC versus second-placed Guyana Police Force FC — is currently underway and expected to determine the league’s final standings.

Essequibo Claim First-Ever Women’s Inter-County Title
Essequibo made history on Thursday, capturing their first Women’s Senior Inter-County Championship with a tense two-wicket win over Berbice at the LBI Community Centre Ground.
Berbice, sent in to bat, posted 134 all out in 37.5 overs. Opener Tiea Isaacs top-scored with 47, while captain Sheneta Grimmond and Plaffianna Millington contributed 12 each.
Nekeisha Narine led Essequibo’s attack with 4–33, supported by Tremaine Marks and Kumarie Persaud with two wickets apiece.
In response, captain Laurene Williams struck 35, while her sister Latoya Williams guided the chase with an unbeaten 32, securing victory at 135–8 in 38.1 overs.
Millington led the Berbice bowling with 3–19, while Sherica Campbell picked up 2–26.
Latoya Williams was named Player of the Match. Sheneta Grimmond finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, Demerara skipper Kaysia Schultz recorded the best bowling figures (6–30), and Isaacs’ 47 remained the highest individual score of the competition.
Hope Century Keeps West Indies Alive in First Test Against New Zealand
After four days of action in the first Test in Christchurch, the West Indies require 319 more runs for victory with six wickets in hand.
New Zealand were bowled out for 231 in their first innings, with Kane Williamson scoring 52. Roach, Seales, Shields and Greaves took two wickets each.
The West Indies replied with 167, buoyed by half-centuries from Tagenarine Chanderpaul (52) and Shai Hope (56), while Jacob Duffy destroyed the innings with 5–34.
New Zealand then declared at a commanding 466–8, courtesy of centuries from captain Tom Latham (145) and Rachin Ravindra (176). Kemar Roach fought back with an impressive 5–78.
Set 531 to win, the Windies reached 212–4 at stumps, led by a magnificent unbeaten 116 from Shai Hope, supported by Justin Greaves on 55 not out.
