HAITI: UN WARNS OF CHOLERA RESURGENCE AMID GANG VIOLENCE
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a warning about a resurgence of cholera in Haiti as the country continues to grapple with widespread gang violence.
OCHA reported that new cholera cases have been confirmed after nearly 11 weeks without infections. In response, Haitiโ€™s Ministry of Health, supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and other humanitarian partners, has ramped up disinfection efforts, awareness campaigns, and the distribution of chlorine, safe water, and hygiene kits in the worst-affected areas.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: ENERGY CHAMBER CALLS FOR BETTER INVESTMENT CLIMATE
The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago says while the Cross-Border Gas Initiative presents exciting short-term opportunities, there is an urgent need to improve the fiscal environment to attract long-term investment in the countryโ€™s oil and gas sector.
The chamber highlighted that production levels continue to decline, and without immediate intervention, growth is unlikely in the short term. It also pointed out that high taxationโ€”over 30 different taxes, levies, and feesโ€”along with unpaid VAT refunds have created major hurdles for producers.
Officials say that VAT refunds owed to some oil and gas companies are so large they exceed the cost of drilling new wells, calling for policy reform to stabilize domestic production and encourage investment.

In international news, senior Trump administration officials are reportedly concerned that the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas could collapse.
According to CNN, U.S. Vice President JD Vance is visiting Israel as part of efforts to reinforce the ceasefire agreement and encourage Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to begin talks for a permanent resolution to the conflict.
Two key negotiators โ€” Trumpโ€™s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner โ€” also met with Netanyahu on Monday to discuss long-term peace and security arrangements in Gaza.
