Trinidad & Tobago: PM Demands State Board Resignations Amid Corruption Concerns
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is demanding the resignation of all state board members who have yet to step down following her party’s return to office.
Speaking at Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing at the Red House in Port of Spain, she warned that all contracts signed by these boards will be referred to the Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau.
“Every contract entered into, every hiring of friends and family, will be investigated,” the Prime Minister said, condemning what she described as “shameless behavior” during the transition of government.
She further stated that the government has a plan to deal with defiant board members and called on those “holding on by their fingernails and toenails” to step aside.

In Argentina, Security Minister Patricia Bullrich has announced the arrest of 12 members of the Tren de Aragua gang, which authorities describe as a terrorist group.
“This is a highly dangerous gang. Today, 12 of its members are in prison,” the minister said during a press conference in Buenos Aires.
The group is accused of carrying out violent attacks on supermarkets, butcher shops, and hardware stores, using firearms and explosives, resulting in fatalities.
The U.S. State Department labeled Tren de Aragua a global terrorist organization earlier this year. However, the Venezuelan government maintains the gang was dismantled in a 2023 raid.
