Jamaica: Murder Rate Plummets 29%; Single-Digit Killings Recorded Last Week

KINGSTON, JAMAICA — New data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) reveals a significant breakthrough in the country’s fight against violent crime. As of March 14, the national murder rate has declined by 29 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

  • The Numbers: Jamaica has recorded 113 homicides so far this year, down from 160 during the corresponding period last year.
  • Weekly Milestone: For the first time in months, the country recorded single-digit killings last week (March 8–14), with only eight homicides reported island-wide.
  • Hotspots: Despite the decline, certain divisions remain under heavy surveillance. St. James leads with 16 murders, followed by St. Andrew South (13) and Clarendon (11).
  • Law Enforcement Strategy: The JCF High Command attributes this downward trend to “intensified operations” and targeted policing strategies that have successfully disrupted gang activities across the island.
