Trinidad and Tobago & Jamaica Strengthen Crime-Fighting Cooperation
In Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, recently held a high-level meeting with Jamaica’s Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang. The two officials discussed enhanced cooperation in crime prevention and detection, pledging to strengthen communication channels between their national law enforcement agencies.
The meeting also reaffirmed diplomatic ties between both countries and set a collaborative tone as Jamaica assumes the Chairmanship of CARICOM from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
Caribbean Urged to Lead Ethically in Global AI Revolution
From St. John’s, Antigua, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean emphasized the region’s vital role in the global artificial intelligence (AI) revolution.
Speaking at the 2nd Annual UWI Five Islands AI Conference, Dr. Stacy Richards-Kennedy urged Caribbean nations to adopt AI strategies that are ethical, inclusive, and rooted in sustainable development.
Now in its second year, the AI Conference is fast becoming the premier platform for shaping a digital future for the Caribbean.
Cambodia & Thailand Agree to Ceasefire After Deadly Border Clashes
On the international front, a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Cambodia and Thailand, ending five days of escalating conflict along their shared 817-kilometer border.
The truce was brokered during emergency talks in Malaysia, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Leaders from both Southeast Asian nations agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, effective at midnight on Monday, following mounting international pressure and offers of mediation from both China and the United States.
