Bahamas: $12 Million Cocaine Seizure on Cat Island

Police in the Bahamas have seized more than US$12 million worth of cocaine during several operations over the weekend. Authorities confirmed that the largest bust occurred on Cat Island, where two men, aged 42 and 37, were apprehended after a joint operation between Bahamian law enforcement and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

According to Superintendent Wendy Pearson, officers aboard a U.S. helicopter observed the men hiding among low-lying bushes with several crocus sacks. Upon landing, officers detained the suspects and discovered 359 kilograms of cocaine inside the sacks. Both suspects were taken to New Providence for further investigation.

โ€œEach of those sacks contained multiple kilo packages of suspected cocaine,โ€ Superintendent Pearson confirmed, praising the cooperation between U.S. and Bahamian authorities.

Trinidad and Tobago: Drone Smuggling Attempt Foiled Near Maximum Security Prison

In Trinidad, national security forces disrupted a drone-based contraband smuggling operation near the Arouca Maximum Security Prison between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Authorities say the intelligence-led operation led to the capture of two suspects, including a 13-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man, who were attempting to smuggle items into the prison compound. The duo tried to flee through dense vegetation, with one sustaining injuries after leaping from a 25-foot embankment.

The police recovered contraband items during the search of a nearby riverbank. Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement agencies heighten surveillance around correctional facilities amid a rise in drone smuggling attempts.

United States: Supreme Court Opens New Term with High-Stakes Cases

The U.S. Supreme Court began its new nine-month term on Monday with several major cases concerning presidential powers and constitutional limits โ€” including issues linked to former president Donald Trump.

The court also rejected multiple appeals, among them a high-profile case filed by Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite convicted of aiding Jeffrey Epstein in the sexual abuse of minors. The justices declined to review Maxwellโ€™s conviction, signaling the end of her legal avenues for appeal.

Legal analysts note that this term could define the scope of executive authority in the United States, especially as Trump continues to test the limits of presidential immunity and power.
